Essa semana a Harvard divulgou uma pesquisa preocupante, informando que mulheres não ocupam cargos de liderança porque não querem tanto quanto os homens.

O estudo, que foi divulgado em uma das revistas mais respeitadas da área, a Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), alega que a ala feminina não dá tanto valor ao poder.

Na busca por explicar esse fênomeno, eles conduziram um levantamento junto a 650 recém-formados em MBA pedindo que listassem seu cargo atual no setor, seu cargo ideal e o cargo mais elevado ao qual imaginam que poderiam chegar.

Os cargos ideais listados pelas mulheres foram mais baixos, que segundo análise do estudo tem a ver com o fato de que elas associam promoções altas com mais aspectos negativos que os homens.

“As mulheres esperam que os cargos de alto nível sejam acompanhados por mais estresse, sobrecarga, conflitos e dilemas difíceis”, disse Alison Wood Brooks, coautora do trabalho e professora assistente de Administração de Empresas em Harvard em entrevista para a Exame.

Teve ainda mais outros nove estudos com cerca de  800 adultos trabalhadores, em que eles deviam descrever “coisas que ocupam seus pensamentos rotineiramente, coisas com as quais você se importa profundamente ou coisas que motivam seu comportamento e suas decisões”.

Embora as mulheres tenham listado mais objetivos que os homens, seus objetivos em relação ao poder foram bem menores. Ou seja, elas almejam mais coisas, mas outras que não envolvem necessariamente cargos de liderança.

Para Brooks, isso acontece “porque perseguir objetivos de carreira e de família simultaneamente é um conceito relativamente novo para as mulheres”.
